About El Ciervo Blanco
Exploring what we know about magic, mythology and religion (mostly pagan).
El Ciervo Blanco (“The White Stag”) is a Cuban cultural research and outreach project that has been running since 2016. We write about the myths, legends, symbols, traditional music, ceremonies, books, films and art that have grown around these beliefs, from their origins to the present day. We approach them through history, anthropology and art, which is why a neopagan practice and a song about a myth both have a place here.
Cuando el mito es bello es arte.
— Samuel Feijóo (“When myth is beautiful, it is art.”)
Who writes it
I’m Enrique (Orouri): Cuban, a graduate in Social Communication, an incurable myth lover and an amateur writer and illustrator of mythopoeia. El Ciervo Blanco began in Havana with a group of friends; today I keep it going on my own, because the subject fascinates me and I haven’t been able to let it go.
How we work
- Rigor over spectacle. We look for a balance between research, as deep and careful as we can make it, and respect for each person’s spiritual life, without fanaticism or superstition. We want to counter misinformation and sensationalism, whether naive or opportunistic.
- Sources in plain sight. Articles list the works we consulted at the end. If you spot a mistake, write to us at support@elciervoblanco.com and we will fix it.
- Independence. El Ciervo Blanco does not speak for any religion, tradition or group. Advertising, affiliate links and donations do not decide what we publish; if a piece is ever sponsored, we will say so clearly.
- Two languages. We write in Spanish. The English versions are drafted with the help of artificial intelligence and reviewed by a person before they are published.
